Part 1
Day 223 13/08
Keyes Hotel, Moshe
21 661 miles
Just a quick dash through Tanzania to meet up with Regan and Alison in Nairobi. We will be exploring on our way back south. We entered in the west and then headed to Mbeya, Morogoro and Moshe. Unfortunately Kilimanjaro was hiding in the clouds when we drove past.
Part 2
Day 265 24/09
Ikuru Rangers Post, Katavi National Park
24 339 miles
We spent a few days relaxing by the lake just outside Kigoma at a lovely little beach, before heading south to Katavi National Park. The west side of Tanzania is still very wild and remote and definitely worth a visit. Katavi is a very quiet game reserve so you have most of the place to yourself. It is the end of the dry season at the moment so most of the game is concentrated around a few springs. We saw al the usual herds and some lion although the most amazing spectacle was the hippos. There are a few mud pools left in the river and these are full of hundreds of hippos - it looks like a load of rocks but on closer inspection it's just hippo after hippo after hippo, with the odd croc thrown in.
