Day 154   05/06

Auberge La Maree, Cap Esterias
13 687 miles

We've spent the last few days driving through the jungle of Gabon and being bitten silly by all manner of bugs and rained on almost every day - that's the tropics for you. We took the yellow road to Libreville which was great most of the way but deteriorated towards the Libreville end. We had a bit of excitement at the Medouneu Immigration Police post. We were in the little wooden hut filling in the fiche and the policeman was being very thourough in checking all our information when there was a bit of a commotion outside. The policeman poked his head out the door and said 'Illegal immigrants' and then promtly commandeered Campbell and the Landrover to chase after the guys running down the street. Campbell also had to pick up a gun toting local and drop them off down the road where the illegals had disappeared into the jungle. The landrover came trundling back, the policeman finished checking our papers and we were free to go.
We headed for Libreville to try and get our Angolan visas but arrived too late in the afternoon so we went up to Cap Esterias to chill out for a couple of days. We'll head back to Libreville tomorrow and try our luck at the Angolan Embassy before heading south.

Day 157   08/06

Bush Camp, Nr Ndende
14 025 miles

Surprise, surprise - but no Angolan visas in Libreville either, this is becoming a real pain. Nothing to hang about for in Libreville so we headed straight out to Lambrene and the south to Congo. Pretty straight forward really although the roads deterirated south of Lambrene. It was pretty slow going with lots of muddy puddles. We found a great quarry to bush camp in though.
